can someone verify this for me its about extension cords
just got a welder but need a extension cord from my dryer to garage.
on another forum, a guy was sayin that i can buy a standard 110v heavy duty 10/3 extension cord and change the receptacle.
i looked up a 110v 10/3 heavy duty cord at my local store and its is rated at 20amp.
my question is :
are all 10/3 wires strand and solid the same?
the ext. cord that i looked up that is rated at 20amp, is that the receptacle or the wire that is 20amp limited

get something around 50amps rated. it'll be good for 40 amps continuous. if you weld long runs or anything pulsed on that 20amp your gonna trip the breaker or the extension cord will get pretty close to melting. I use 8/3 ext cables for 50' or less and if its gonna be 75' bigger I use 6/3. just search "welder extension cords" in google. they'll show where to get em. I get 50' for for $65-$75.

I used two of these on this site, was cleared by the inspector. Went this route for some time, then changed. I never noticed a voltage drop until I welded with out these. I use to set my amps to like 70 and weld sch10, now I can set it to about 50 and weld sch10

Copper is high right now, so yes. You could probably save some money if you make your own cable.
