cage surface rust

Default cage surface rust

whats the best way to knock off all of the surface rust on a mild steel roll cage. Gotta paint that sucker

I would shy away from a wire wheel unless there is a ton of surface rust. If there is just a light coating of rust, I would get some sandpaper. It will be much faster and come out with a better finish due to it being able to be wrap around the entire tube and give an even finsh also.

Either will work, I just think a wire wheel will leave a rough finish that you will have to sand down later. Use sandpaper, do it once and do it right.

i was thinking the same thing. its not bad yet and i should be getting started on it this weekend after certification. Gotta get a good primer on it soon. Im going to paint it to match the exterior color.

go to any paint store...they should have different types of scotch brite pads. the red color one would work well for light surface rust. good luck
