You do realize that we have multiple publications that are easily 500 pages long? Do you have a part number? If you do then I can tell you exactly what tools and the proper proceedures for repairing and replacing you will need.

I guess more specifically I'm wondering about bulkhead connectors. I want to be able to unplug my engine with one plug...or two... and im curious if there's something that goes on the back of the bulkhead part, or are all the wires just loose, and therefore taped/loomed up. Is it just the part attached to the panel, and the plug or is there more to it? Thats the specific question, but also the part numbers that are associated with the connectors.. is there any rhyme or reason to the numbers, say, describing size...#of pins etc? to be able to manipulate a search to get exactly what you're looking for [like on ebay or where-ever] or are they all gibberish?

 

i think you really need to call my boss but ask for Gin cuz he's the man. basically there are pins and sockets that utilize the dmc crimper (that costs around 200 bucks) it all depends on the wires that you use which will decide if you need dt or dtm pins/sockets. we carry about 100 different mill-spec connectors and also auto sport connectors but those are for the hard core enthusiasts. most mill spec have 4 -about 100 terminals some with dt and dtm pins/sockets....

btw, you preferrably want to use high grade wiring not the copper stuff.

i used to HATE doing wiring, but for some reason lately i have grown to really like it.

It sounds like there is no "idiots guide to Mil-spec wiring".

For starters I'm looking for is quick disconnects for my switch panel. Right now when i pull it out i have to unscrew the wires from EVERY switch and it sucks.

I think I am going to use these little 4 pin connectors that i use on my AIM dash, but would like to do other wiring stuff.

the one thing that you might want to add is epoxy between the boot and the dr-25. technically, our harnesses, should be able to be submersed in xxxxx and keep the xxxxxx exposed to the wires.

 

You should try going to the library or ebay and looking for books on wiring. My dad did a LOT of mill spec wiringfor his work when i was a kid and just recently i realised what he was dooing haha.

Look in to Aviation wiring, get a copy of Race Car engineering magazine also avoid service loops if at all posiable. If your looking for a sorce to get connectors and parts you can contact http://www.EFItechnologys.com i belive they sell conectors, pins and DR25.

 

I would really like to do this to my one piece civic harness. It would make doing swaps soooo much easier.

lmao yeah i wish it went like that. but to bad it doesnt

i pull the motor
attach the harness to motor
then strip the harness to the wires
make measurements and then go from there

seems messy but i write everything down. anyways im doing a LS/vtec turbo build an building a harness for it so i'll start a write up or add more to this one around january or febuary of 08

just means your faster at than me j/k for real tho thats cool but i dont do this daily so kudos to you. quick question though do you buy your connectors in bulk or indivisually also if you could PM me where you buy your CPC connectors or if you use mil-spec

 

Check out Digikey, they have a huge listing of Amphenol connectors, and what the part #'s mean in terms of # of pins, and gauge.

you sure they used raychem wire and not just their heatshrink?

in any case, you should be able to buy raychem wire from tyco electronics...

to the OP, there is no single source of information regarding connectors, it is basically learned through experience.

a good place to start is to check out amphenol's catalogs to get you familiarized with the product. check this out: http://www.amphenol-aerospace....e.htm

any questions you might have just post them, i'm sure there are plenty of people here who can help you...

keep in mind that connectors and the tooling needed for them is very expensive.

other manafacturers of connectors include ITT Cannon http://www.ittcannon.com/ and Souriau http://www.souriau.com/

lol... ebay will take a while. I used to watch it but its close to impossible to get a complete set. If you search by PN search you find more stuff as well. just need to know the part #'s.

Have you started looking into autosports yet?!

some bulkheads use a nut on the backside while others you can screw/rivet/nail into place.
