Default ? about welding stainless

I need to extend my intake tube for my turbo inlet. I have everything cut and marked now it just needs to be welded. My friend only has mild steel wire currently. I know typically this is a no go because it will eventually crack. This piece will be seeing no heat except for what is in the bay. So would it be ok? It's going to be painted so I'm not concerned with it rusting. Thanks,Adam

The resultant weld would be fine really.
The ferrite number will be less than optimal, but
Without a significant load ( static or cyclical),
Cracking really shouldn't happen.
The paint will minimize the only real concern
For long term use in this case; corrosion related failure.
