I hate to do this, but I have to.
Neal Kitchen’s ‘69 Mustang Grande
More pictures are available upon request.
The car is a gulfstream aqua 1969 Ford Mustang Grande coupe with a black vinyl top and the deluxe interior with woodgrain and comfortweave vinyl seats in black. The car has 129,000 miles on the chassis but no longer has the original engine, transmission, or rear end. It was originally equipped with a 302 2V and C4 automatic as well as power steering, air conditioning, and 4 wheel non-power drum brakes.
It now has a healthy 351C 4V engine and a toploader wide ratio 4 speed manual transmission.
The engine is a 72 block with 70 4V closed chamber heads. The block is bored .030” over. It has a prepped factory crank and rods with ARP rod bolts and forged aluminum pistons. The heads have had minor porting and polishing as well as a good bit of bowl work, a quality 3 angle valve job, and they have been decked to give the engine a 10.8:1 compression ratio. The engine has been driven less than 5000 miles since it was rebuilt.
The valvetrain consists of a custom grind solid flat tappet cam from Comp Cams that specs at 282/288 advertised duration, 244/252 @ .050”, .590/.600” lift, and a 108 LSA. The valves are Milodon Megaflow stainless steel valves that are 2.19 on the intake and 1.70 exhaust. Everything in the valvetrain except the valves came from Comp Cams including springs, lifters, pushrods, pro magnum roller rockers, retainers, locks, and seals.
The top half of the engine consists of a Edelbrock Torquer intake and a Holley 750 cfm Double Pumper carburetor. Fuel is provided through stock fuel lines feeding a Holley 60gph mechanical pump, and spark comes from a full MSD ignition including the distributor, coil, 6AL ignition box, and plug wires. The engine is dressed with finned aluminum Mickey Thompson valve covers and a chrome Ford Racing air cleaner with a K&N filter.
The transmission is a 68 wide ratio smallblock toploader 4 speed with a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch and Hurst shifter. The power is transferred to a 1965 8” rear end with 4.11 gears and a traction-loc differential.
The exhaust consists of Hooker Super Competition longtube headers with 1 7/8” primaries and 3 ½” collectors feeding into 3 ½” cutouts. After the cutouts, which can be opened up with 3 wingnuts on each side to allow unrestricted exhaust flow at the track, the exhaust is necked down to dual 3” pipes with Flowmaster Delta Flow 40 series mufflers and turndowns exiting just in front of the rear end.
The air conditioning is no longer in the car, although I do have some of the components. The power steering also has been swapped for a manual setup. The suspension is in good condition and is stock with the exception of KYB Gas-A-Just shocks.
The front brakes have been swapped for manual discs with a conversion kit from Stainless Steel Brakes Company that uses 12” rotors and aluminum 2 piston calipers.
The car now rides on American Racing Torq Thrust D wheels measuring 15x7 in the front and 15x8.5 in the rear. The tires are BFGoodrich Radial T/As measuring 225/60R15 in the front and 275/60R15 in the rear.
The car has a beautiful paint job though it does have a few small chips and blemishes. The interior is likewise in excellent shape with few things that would need to be fixed to turn this into a show car. It’s a very nice interior for a street/strip car. The original dash pad is in poor shape but has a molded plastic dash cover fit over it that looks pretty good. The passenger headrest does have a small tear in the vinyl that is probably about 1” long. The carpet, seats, dash, headliner, and door panels are all in excellent shape. I have put custom carpeted floor mats with the Mustang pony logo embroidered on the fronts in the car as well as a walnut 3 spoke Grant steering wheel.
Overall, the car is gorgeous and in excellent shape. It does still need a few small odds and ends for cosmetics but no expensive parts. I have owned the car for 5 years and am selling the car to pay for college. I have put in hundreds of hours of labor into this car and know it will be a great investment providing years of fun for an enthusiast that can appreciate this type of car. Asking price is $14,000. I have many extra parts that can go with the car if they are wanted.
Contact me by phone at (706) 662-5458 Cell or at (770) 237-5181 Home or by email at NealKitchen@hotmail.com. The car is located in Dacula, GA about 35 miles northeast of Atlanta.
