Eventually I will get a B16 with LSD but I'm just not ready to do that yet. I currently have an LS with cams in an OBD1 Civic. I have some extra transmission parts lying around that I want to put together. The hydro LS gearing suuuuucks. I have an extra B18A1 gear set and an extra hydro case. I want to put the B18A1 gears in the hydro case.

I don't need the transmission to last forever and I'm not making that much power anyways. What I want to know is will the below kit break my transmission? I'm not expecting this to perform like a true LSD but I figure it's cheap and what do I have to lose? When I build my B16 transmission I'll get a real one. If anyone has any actual experience with this I'd be interested to hear.

I also have a 4.9 FD that I could use with this and either use the B18A1 5th gear or the B18B1 5th gear. Would this be too much for a daily driver revving to 8k? I'm thinking I'd better stick to the 4.4 that came with the B18A1.

save the money for a real LSD. Those are junk. it locks the spider gears together. if you break the diff it could possibly damage other parts of the transmission.

Is that item basically trying to do the same thing as welding the diff?

That thing on Ebay is an incomplete copy of an LSD design built by Steve Eckerich (username sekerich) which looks like this.....





The copy, so called Phantom Glip left out the important parts, like clutches!!!!

The legendary Mista Bone! Hey thanks for weighing in. Whatever happened to your B-series transmission page? I can't find it anymore.

Anyways, does Steve Eckerich have this for a B-series? Does it work well? Is it reliable? Is it economical?

What B18A1 set do you have? Only the YS-1 92-93 set will work with the Hydro cases. If its early B18A1 from an S-1 or A-1 it will not work in the Hydro cases. As far as the ebay part....We had a nice pile of those at the shop at one time from a list of unhappy customers along with the spider gears and diff pins that exploded with them. Save your money and use it towards your B16 trans! Also recommend to get one without the factory LSD and use an aftermarket LSD like Wavetrac or Quaife.

Thanks for the info. If it's a 90-91 gearset can I take the gears off the shafts to swap them?

The splines are way different on the countershaft among other things. Would be nice though!

I only had D-Series info on WebTV link, that was 15 years ago? Katman tackled the B's.
