type r trans diff?
installed this type r tranny in my buddy's car and when you make a turn while giving it gas it makes a horrible clanking noise like the axles are or the diff was gonna snap. whats that piece inside the diff? never seen it before.
that's what i was thinking but he ordered the tranny online from one of those jdm distributors. it's suppose to be stock. don't think they came that way from the factory. it came with the starter, rear bracket, slave cylinder, fork/bearing, clutch and flywheel. casing doesn't look like it's ever been opened.
This is not an OEM ITR LSD. It is an aftermarket LSD with belleville washers. These are what you see in the center of the axle holes. The noise you are hearing could be the CV joints or could be from the gears in the LSD. It is common on less expensive (Lower quality) LSDs for these washers and internal gears break causing this noise. Bottom line is that you will probably need a new LSD.
