About a month ago, I picked up a 1997 Honda Civic with an 1998 EX manual transmission. Third gear was grinding a little and transmission would make a noise when the clutch pedal was released in any gear or nuetral. I am currently rebuilding my transmission (B000 S40) due to a worn input shaft bearing. During the teardown, I happened to notice a deep scratch on the 3-4 shift fork shaft. I presume that this is where the ballbearing sits. I ended up ordering a replacement shift fork and a master rebuild kit from Syncrotech since I am unaware of how many miles are on the transmission itself. The scratch is not on the new 3-4 shift fork (see pics), but my question is how does something like this occur? I did inspect the ballbearing and there is no signs of issues or wear. When I originally opened up the transmission, there was no debris or metal shavings.
