I'm not a mechanic and really don't know much about cars. I'm a little desperate because nobody knows what's going on with my car. This past weekend I was driving out to Vegas and as I was driving uphill going about 65 mph my car started slowing down so the car kicks into overdrive and should go to a lower gear but what happened was it went into what I believe was 1st gear. This happened while going 65mph. It felt like someone slammed on the breaks. The rpm almost hit red then it suddenly went back to shifting normal. Scariest experience ever. I had my girlfriend and son with me. We're glad no one was behind us or who knows if We'd still be here. We got lucky. I've taken it to a couple transmission shops and they can't pinpoint a problem. They seen that the engine revved up to a very high rpm but that's about it. Another thing was that last year they replaced the solenoids. I was thinking could it be the same issue? Can someone please help. I would really appreciate it.

It sounds like your car is simply showing signs of slipping. Every automatic transmission will eventually wear to the point that you have to rebuild it(replace the clutch packs).

Have you ever done a drain and fill of your auto transmission fluid ? How many miles ?
