So a friend of mine got done with a b16 motor/tranny swap. And he cant go into third gear while the engine is running. But with the car off it goes into third just fine. Does anyone have any input on what the problem may be? its has a hydro to cable conv. on it.

 

all the other gears shift fine? does it grind 3rd or he's blocked out? does it feel normal when the engine is off and he shifts into 3rd (no resistance)? and i take it he's driving regularly when he tries to shift? with or without the clutch, see if it goes in with a 1000 rpm drop from 2nd into 3rd.

 

YEah everything else shifts normal. He is blocked completely out of thrid gear. When the engine is off it shifts normal. It wont go into third at all with the engine running.
