First off trans is a 94 S80 gsr
I installed a new mfactory lsd with new tapered bearings when going to check for shim clearance ... I have no clearance. LSD will not spin freely as soon as I torque the bolts down it no longer spins. What shim should i use/ or where to buy from ? Any help is appreciated thank you.
The shims are available from your local Acura Parts Department. The part numbers/thickness chart is found in the FSM. Since the shim that you have is too thick, you could begin sanding/machining it thinner and re-install it and check the preload. Otherwise, you will have to buy a BUNCH of new shims and start trying them. Once you can get a reading that is lower than 30 in/lbs., you can then measure the average thickness of the shim you have now and then use the chart in the FSM to select the preload that you want... and maybe order one thicker and one thinner than your target just to be sure... and then put it together.

I ran into a similar problem but then realized I had to remove one of the washer-type things ( may have been oe shims) out of the transmission case. Once I did that, the lsd sat in the trans case correctly and it spun freely. The mfactory instructions never mentioned removing the shims out of the case (or maybe I missed it) which is why I ran into the issue.
Currently only have one shim in pressed against the tapered bearing as I’m guessing this is how you measure the clearance ? don’t have my feeler gauge at he moment I’ll be back later in the day to measure it
I think you need to bang those cups out... I just did this on a 96 GSR two-ish months ago... I’m racking my brain trying to remember what I did. These are the parts I removed from the each side of the trans case to ge the new bearings and diff to sit in correctly.
You don't run a clearance, you run a preload. You need the proper tools to set the preload (a mic or good calipers, a beam type torque wrench and you'll need to fab a holder for the diff).
