Default Main Shaft & Counter Shaft Speed Sensor

Hi. I've a 1998 CRV 4wd here in the uk. I'm suffering harsh shifting, notably when dropping down the gears on acceleration and on kickdown. I've had the box overhauled and the external solenoids replaced and it's still doing it. Yesterday I was watching the live data and saw that the Countershaft speed sensor was reading the correct road speed, but the main shaft [I think the US call this the Turbine] speed sensor was often lagging a long way behind and sometimes oddly dropping or flatlining at any speed; there were usually defined jumps in the main shaft sensor speed reading [up and down] at around the harsh gear changes. But notably when the main sensor followed the counter shaft and vehicle speed sensor [probably the same one] the gear changes were really smooth. Is it likely that the main shaft speed sensor could be causing this, or is this just another artifact of an as yet undiagnosed fault.
