Default LSD problem ...

I swapped a sir II with a lsd transmission yesterday and my question is : the tranny has an aftermarket lsd, is it possible that the lsd is engaging when i am turning slowly and make a sound like clak clak clak and we feel like if the wheel where blocking ... The person who installed me the engine tells me that it is because the lsd might be very agressive, is it that ? I just want a confirmation !

What can be the cause if it's not that ? (he changed the axle (cardan) twice so it's not the problem i t I don't think it's the ''cardan'' ( I am not sure if it's the right name in english) because it do that only a slow speed and even if i turn right or left.

UPDATE, we are thinking that it might be the fault of the oil in the transmission, it's cheap 10w30 in it ... can it be that ?

And by the way, may it be dangerous in the winter ? Thanks a lot everyone

Honda told me they use 10w-40 on all of their LSD trannys. Today I bought it from them for mine. Haven't installed the tranny yet.

I had the same problem on an h22 tranny lsd and the problem is that I belive they are clutch type and when you turn the clutches are suppose to slip but all I did was to go to the auto parts store(i went to autozone) and I bought an lsd additive I belive its called posi-trac. It comes like in a toothpaste tube and that fixed it for me. my symptoms where when you turned it made loud clunk noises until I straighted out the wheel it stoped and the car also jerked while turning. it was only like $7 for it let me know if it works. it did for me

yeah. i was also informed that my lsd is a clutch type. but i heard that putting in a lsd additive was bad. does anyone know what kind of oil to use? im not sure of what brand my lsd is. and i got this tranny for 200 bucks because the guy thought it was broken. i told him why it does that and still don't believe me. His lost.

I purchased a swap for my Ek from H-motors a few years back, and it came with a thin head gasket and an aftermarket diff. It scared the hell out of me the first time a tried to drive it. After a bunch a phone calls and research, I now use Motul FF-Comp 75w-140. The diff still makes a little noise when it's cold, and in tight turns but it works. Hope this helps

Sounds like clutch LSD. I picked up mine for good price, from one of the importers. Depending on the type 1/1.5/2 way it will have different characteristics. I do not forsee any winter issues, having driven 1.5way LSD in my ITR, its all about getting used to the delivery and lock up. Low speed turns and when its cold will cause chatter so do not be alarmed.

Recommended fluids I have tried:
Pennzoil Synchromesh w/ friction modifier (GM stuff works as well)
Honda MTF + small bottle of LSD friction modifier

i have the same exact problem.

i first used 15 50 mobil1 motor oil and it worked good for maybe a month and then it made that sound like how on the video and it irratated me. so my friend told me to put LSD additive so i did and i also changed the fluid to Honda MTF and it worked fine again. and then now its acting the same way.. WTF. anybody know how to fix this problem??

oh yeh the LSD additive was called Trans X from Napa.

i have a clutch type lsd also . I've had two so far and both made the noise when they were first installed. i've used cusco lsd oil and redline 75w90 with friction modifier and had good results with both.

with clutch LSD's redline MTL and GM friction modifier normally cure the chatter. try the MTL, if you still have chatter add friction modifier until it goes away.

this is why you buy ITR gear driven factor LSD's guys j/k

when i had a kazz LSD in my civic it would make a clunking noise(at low speeds) like i had a bad axle, that was because it was very aggressive and was wanting to lock up at low speeds. when moving at anything above parking lot speeds it was just fine.

i used 75/90 gear lube with a generic LSD additive. worked for me and i never had a problem

it is normal for clutch-type LSD's to make a clunking sound, especially before break-in. sorry i cant quantify loud, but it is to be expected. the upside is, they kick ***.
