Default Lockup solenoid function

I have a '90 Honda Accord EX with an automatic transmission. The TCU failed and for fun I've decided to design my own and turn it into a manual-matic; I thought I'd design a simple controller with a paddle shifter.

My question is about the TC lockup solenoids. Why two? What's the different function of Lockup Sol. A vs. Lockup Sol. B?
