Hey guys

my car is '96 ej8 (d16y8) manual
i recently changed the bearings and seals in my gearbox since they were making bad noises. after putting it all back together and testing it i found that reverse would not go in no matter what i did, it just grinds

anyway so i had a search through this forum and found some possible problems. however i couldnt fix it doing anything that was mentioned in any of the previous threads... so i decided to take the gearbox apart again and see what the problem is.

the problem is with the reverse selector, it wont engage reverse unless i manually click the spring back. what am i doing wrong? from what i can see the selector can only go in one way??? is this wrong? any ideas?

You put the reverse idler gear in upside down.

 

DOH!

 

so i tried turning the reverse gear around
at first it didnt work either but after a bit of playing around i got it to go straight in to reverse ... arg such an annoying mistake...

FIRST Honda tranny I ever watched being tore apart, the tech put reverse in backwards.

Swore I'd never do that!!!!!

I have put the 1-r-2 slider on upside down though.
