None. Gear oil is a no-no.

honda uses MTF, or regular motor oil in the manual trans. Gear oil would gum it all up pretty bad and slow down the syncros. Def not a good idea.

the amount would depend on the model of transmission being used.
ex: GSR trans would hold roughly 2 1/2 quarts of MTF or oil.

2 quarts. If that. 2.5 qts will have .5 quarts exiting the fill hole.

2.3 quarts for B's, overfilling with 2.5 quarts isn't a problem.

^ yep, 2.3 it is, Get 3 quarts of MTF, and fill with the plug out until fluid runs out, put plug back in, call it a day.

I'd rather waste .2 of a quart than under fill it by the .3. Doubt it would matter that much either way tho.

I wouldn't be concerned about wasting it at all. But you can't exactly purchase half quarts of Honda MTF, Torco MTF, Amsoil MTF, etc. They come in full quarts. So you wouldn't be wasting .2. You'd be saving .7 for the next change.

Yeah? And what testing have you done for that? You'll be amazed at what the K-series runs despite being a larger trans housing and slightly larger gear set then...

You realize that, unless you have the trans completely torn down and cleaned out, there is still fluid left in the trans. This maintains that you use two different fill amounts depending on the scenario. 2.3 qts is recommended for the overhaul. A fluid change will not take as much.

Yes I realize there is still a small amount of mtf in the trans when doing just a drain and refill. But what you need to realize is that when you fill to the proper level, it WILL run out the fill/check hole, and that it is in fact, 2.3 qts inside the case. I was saying to run the correct amount by doing this in my post before the one you have quoted, and another member said that not filling all the way up is ok (2 qts i believe he said), when that is false, all i said, was use the correct amount. Thats not to hard to do, really.

Now if you want to ask about testing I have done, then I will tell you this. I have been working with Synchrotech for year testing new products for them and trying new tricks here and there. So please, insted of getting into a pissing contest, just follow instructions. Honda engineers are some of the best in the industry, and I'm sure they know what they are talking about.

Who said anything about a K...? Whole new beast there.
