Default Gear Oil??

What do you guys suggest(or use) for a gear oil brand? I've been told to avoid any synthetic gear oil like the plauge. It's about time to change it in my car, so I was wondering what would be the best to put in. Thanks guys. BTW: car is 00 civic si (if it matters)

oil for the tranny? if so, go to honda, and get some manual transmission fluid. its not like 80W-90 oil, its more like 10w-30 or 10w40 that goes in there. hondas fluid has additives that is easier on syncros, etc...

i had always used redline MT in my Zcars, and i put the stuff in my rex a while ago. i haven't any problems with it with the Borg Warner T5 trannnys and after putting it in the L3 tranny the shifting got smoother and i got rid of the slight grind in third at high RPMs. pretty cheap too, (well i bought the stuff about four years ago, when i had my Zcars, and had some bottles left over)

Do not put gear oil into your transmission.. I use honda MTF as well as a bunch of my friends, no problems. Some of my friends use regular 10w30 with no problems, and some use Mobil 1 Synthetic 10w30 and swear by it (but i cant really say, since i've never used it)
and 90crxsi, dont BW T5's take ATF?

no, it is a five speed manual. and they use standart transmission fluid. i began using MT in both of my Zs soon after i aquired them and untill i lost both of them, never a problem. my diff and halfshafts gave me more problems than the trannys.
they are nearly bulletproof, unlike honda trannys.
i suppose people have various experiences with that issue. i love what MT did to my shifter feel.

I have repaired more than one transmission that some moron put gear oil in. Watch out for shops that don't know Honda's; they will put gear oil in your transmission and it will cost you. MTF

thanks agian for all the help, a shop i took my rex to when they put the stage 3 clutch and lightened flywheel in told me to use gear oil(after i brought them MTF to put in) he said gear oil is the best bet for the drag racing and hard driving it would see. But I did a search and everyone else feels real strongly about the MTF I think I'll go that route. Thanks guys!!

If you can't get MTF run motor oil-anything but gear oil!
