Is Honda AT fluid really Dexron
While changing the AT transmission fluid on a 1998 CR-V I noticed the dip stick seal has DEXRON clearly embossed on the top. This cause me to question whether Honda AT Fluid is really ordinary repackaged DEXRON fluid and sold with a high markup. It is relevant to note the AT package makes no statement the fluid has been specially formulated for Honda. Unlike the manual transmission lubricant which states it has been specially formulated by a named Japanese company to Honda's specifications.
Does anyone know whether Honda AT fluid is really DEXRON? The cost difference is significant: Honda AT fluid costs 3X as much as brand name DEXRON fluid.

it is Dexron based as Ford ATF requires different seals.
I use Castrol ATF for Imports, $4.49 a quart.
My 93 Civic LX has 242k miles, my 91 Civic EX has 254k miles.
Change the fluid every 15k miles.
