Default Honda Element vss conversion

I acquired a 03 Honda Element. The previous owners put in a newer crv trans(manual) and now the speed sensors do not match up. I tried to search but a lot of the results are old products that aren’t even available anymore.

what is the best way to convert this vss to a signal my element can read.

Wow never noticed that in the past. Element used the newer style 3rd(?) gear speed sensor on the front of the transmission case and the CR-V used the older style differential speed sensor on the top rear of the clutch case.

Most of the speed converters out there go the other way, from new to old.

yeah that’s what I’m finding online. I think the new plan is to drill out the case for the 3rd gear sensor. There is a spot on the case for it.

It is a bored hole to seal an o-ring. A correctly sized drill will probably be close enough. Don't forget to drill and tap the retaining bolt hole.

Worst case you replace the transmission case with the Element part.

I'd look at the service manuals and find the pin out of the VSS sensor / plug that your element has. Then wire up the sensor and see if you can get anything at all to register on your instrument cluster.

If you can, then use a SpeedoDRD to recalibrate your speed. I'm willing to bet the SpeedoDRD model K3 for Kawasaki motorcycles will plug right up to the hall effect sensor on the front of the transmission where it reads mainshaft 3rd gear.
