gsr tranny vs b16 tranny question
im on a sort of low budget. if you guys can find me a ctr or itr tranny for around 700 than ill think about it. all i was asking in the first place was which one is better gsr or b16 because those are the two that i like. ya ctr and itr are cool but theyre expensive as hell and i just dont know if i could sleep at night knowing i spent that much on a transmission. i know i know theyre bad *** trannys but i just couldnt do it. i have found b16 that need a new third syncro for 200 dollars. thats an easy fix for still cheaper than an itr or ctr. but now that i know that gsr's seem better and more reliable then thats what i want. so.... anyone sellin a gsr tranny?? haha
If that's really all the b16 needs and you're comfortable with taking transmissions apart that is a steal for $200.
You could get teflon coated 3rd gear synchros and an OBX lsd and you'll have a badass setup for cheap.

Except that normally once they start grinding you need the sleeve and gear too, and they aren't cheap.
IIRC it all comes as an assembly from honda, gear, hub, syncro, syncro spring and sleeve. Its a considerable amount of money, but of you can do the work yourself and the other gears are all good it would be worth it over buying another used B16 tranny for more money that may have a worn syncro that isn't grinding yet. Make sure that 2nd is good though. 1st/2nd syncro and sleeve set is over $400 from honda, 2nd gear itself is another $110 or so. Can be had cheaper from majestic honda.
i gotta stock b18c1 in an eg coupe with a gsr tranny and it is a beast on the street. and it still does good on gas and isnt bad on the highway thats what i would go with

GSR should be pretty solid for gas mileage. Changing gears or transmissions won't do much for you. It's much more likely an ignition issue that's affecting your mileage.
i wasnt stealin this thread i was jus tryin to help this guy out by sayin the gsr tranny does good on the street and is still good for the track. i mean the gearing is good enough that mine spins through 3rd gear easily. i have put down high 14's while spinning through 3rd 1t 93 mph and my car is a full weight ex coupe its weighs 2550 with me in it it runs real good with the gsr tranny so thats what i would recommend for this guy.

honestly that sounds like a decent set up dude, do what you can afford, lsd will definitely make the difference. my buddy is running ls/vtec with a gsr lsd tranny and it makes me wanna kill him, ls trannys suck.
ya dude i had one and i hated it. i have a built gsr high compression and i was just wanting a good road/track tranny for it. who makes good cheap lsd's?
