Default B16 Transmission VS. GSR Transmission

I have a 1992 Honda Civic DX Hatchback. (Weight = 1970)

I have a B18a1 motor in it right now with a B16 tranny. In a weeks time i am going to put a turbo on the motor and boost 10psi. I wanted to know which tranny would make the car faster a B16 or a GSR on this setup?

PS: I have a GSR tranny at my house.

you are gonna be good with either, but go with the GSR if you have it.

you'll have faster qaurterr mile times with the b16 tranny (shorter gears), sux driving on the high way, but u can always change that 5th gear with gsr's 5th gear.

b16 for racing, gsr if you are on the freeway a lot. I just changed my tranny to gsr and the b16 was a hell of a lot faster getting up, but i couldnt stand being at 4k+ on the freeway

just do what I did, use a b16 tranny with the LS 5th gear and be done with it...

I never shift to 5th at the track.. so its all good

this thread is full of fail! the OP is asking which tranny will be FASTER and the answer to that is the one with the shorter gearing which would be the B16.

the b16 will defiantely be faster, but on a side note i thought the 92 hatchback cx was the lightest model unless of course you have some weight reduction....

Sorry not trying to thread jack, but just a quick question. I have two B16 trans one with a LS 5th. I'm assuming the one with the LS 5th would be great for a 375-425whp DD. Correct?

it depends on how much hp you have. the shorter gears are only make your car faster only if you have traction.
if you have a stock motor and are not boosting a lot >275hp then a b16 tranny will probably be faster.

but if you have like 400+hp and you have like no traction with 1-4th gear then a longer gear transmission will probably be better.

b16 trans will hold as much as u want, but since your going to be slamming thru gears really fast, then as some may know, b16 does have weaker syncros than GSR, so expect it to go out quicker than a GSR would.

My 2 cent, i may have counted wrong lol

X2 he is right! Thread question is answer.

This makes no sense. If you cant get traction wouldnt you get items for better traction such as radials, slicks, traction bar, etc.

for a turbo setup you would want longer gear ratios.....so i'd go with the gsr...but alot of people like ls trannys for turbo setups because the gear ratios are longer then the gsr

i would say bottom line, b16 for the track and gsr for anything longer than that. and u cant forget about tire size, rpms, final drive (if u decide to mess with that too) etc, they also play a big factor in gearing and when it comes to getting traction, i would think more about the size slicks that your using. any high hp car would be worthless without getting traction

I ran an LS for years boosted, its really ghey If you are putting down 500whp on the street I could see an LS's benefit but anything else no....
