Default B16 Tranny VS. GSR Tranny

Im looking into getting rid of the b16 and buying a gsr. I have both a gsr tranny and a b16 tranny right now. B16 is just sitting around. But i need to know what would go better with a gsr. a b16 or a gsr tranny. Ive heard the gsr trannys have slightly longer gearing but also heard the are stronger? i dunno about that but i would like to know some of your input

The B16A is better for an all motor application due to closer, shorter gearing. The gearing is freaking awesome. The GSR has a stronger diff. If you're putting down stock or close to stock power, I wouldnt worry about it.

Give me the B16 trans. I've been looking for one to put on my B18C1.

Nope, just 3 friends with em1's that have throwout bearing issues and two of them have a 1st gear going out.

All under 70k.

there was some huge transmission post somewhere. I read the GSR diff was stronger. I dont remember where I saw it. Will post it up if i find it.

I never had problems with my JDM B16A trans (when i had my JDM B16 lol). I loved it. Drove the car real hard. I mean i didnt really launch it much or anything. I road raced the hell out of it, though. Shifted smooth as butter. Some people say they've had problems.....oh well.

This is also true.

but having been around for a few years, I've seen exponentialy more "b16" related tranny issues. Even in throwout bearings, synchros and all.

It IS a motor that has to be revved to make power, so It would be tough to make a scientific diagnosis that's accurate. We'd have to poll thousands of b16 owners and have too many constants.

We'd have to tear a b16 tranny down to really see if any parts are insufficient.

and your notorious for saying that GSR's are better. if you had a b16 tranny you would be on the other side of the bridge

just in the gearing in regards to the LS

i have had both trannys apart and IMHO the type of bearings used in the GSR hydro was not as good as a cable B16 LSD tranny

I hear that a lot. And with hearing it so often there has to be an issue with the synchros or something.

That's called the Honda third gear grind for a reason: It happens in all Honda trannies, all the time. Either transmission will fall apart if you shift like an ******* all the time.

Why are you wondering which you should choose? Put the old B16 tranny on your car, and run it until it explodes (metaphorically), and all the while just rebuild your GSR (one meant to be used with the motor) until it's practically brand new, then slap the bitch on there. You could even get an LSD in that time and put it on.

Or you can do it the other way around if you want even shorter gearing. My $.02
