Default Gearbox question

Hi, so I'm a new member as you can see =]

I recently just got my dad's manual car (Honda Accord 2001) and I've been driving it to work and to go shopping for the past 2 years or so. I usually ride my bicycle but work is too far for that. Anywho, just recently (like yesterday), I noticed something different. When I start shifting into first gear (after warming up), I couldn't move the shifter into first. It was as though something was blocking it from going into first, reverse, or any gear for that matter. Having to press the emergency lights at stoplights because I can't shift into first has been embarrassing to the max. That's all I can describe right now, I'm not that educated in cars (I know how to change brake pads, oil, etc. basic maintenance stuff) but if you need any more information, let me know! Just a poor college student trying to find out what's wrong with his car

Thanks!
