Default MTF Question

Alright my car always grinds in 3rd gear and I've been reading the integra facts threads that have for manual transmission fluid but so far I've read you want to use redline or something else if your gear is grinding? Like when I go to shift from 2nd to 3rd it just starts grinding especially at the higher RPM's.

So basically should I just stick with the HMTF or should I go with this redline stuff cause it's grinding? Thanks.

I've heard some people complain about redline damaging their transmissions after a while. You might as well stick with the thick OEM stuff. If you haven't changed in a while, it would still be a good thing to replace your Honda MTF.

Well the thing is I haven't changed the MTL at all yet. I emailed the previous owner but that fool hasn't emailed anything back to me about my question on what hes done to the car. I'll just try the honda MTF and see if it still grinds. I'll let you guys know in a few hours or so whats going on.

Penzoil Syncromesh is what I use works pretty good and its the same stuff for 1/3 of the price as the GM stuff.

If your motor and tranny is from an Ls integra then it is common to have grinds at high rpm especially in third gear. This tranny has the weakest differential out of the B series tranny so it is not uncommon that this kind of problem happens.

No my car is an all stock GSR. Anyways it is the syncho cause we changed the oil and it still does it and from what I've been reading about the synchros then it makes sense. Thanks for all the responses though!

What did you change it with? HMTF? I would seriously try Penzoil Synchromesh. 2 qts and the other .3, you could use 10w30. The synchromesh was good to go for my tranny.

it's older D series civic boxes. redline doesn't act well with some of the plastic in them. it's completely fine in any 94+ integra. no clue about earlier stuff. your clutch setting also has an impact on gear grinding. if you have it set to release right off the floor it could be the problem.

I've always used OEM fluids and have had no problems. It sounds like your synchros are going and trying to get "fix" it by additives is only going to mask the problem.
