Default FIrst time LSD install

Im about to take the on the task of installing an LSD unit. I pretty sure the one in my GSR is out of commission. Has anyone tackled this task being the first time ever? what would you say the difficulty level was out of 1-10? I plan on going to get a Helm manual and using this post a a guide http://www.xm-parts.com/articles/hgear/gear.htm .

All i have to really do is take the case off..
then remove the main and counter shaft
BAMB removed the LSD
swap over the finial drive and put pop everything back to together

I know its not that simple but is that pretty much it?

No. You need to reshim the new diff. I go farther and recheck all other clearances after shimming the diff.

You will also have to remove the spedometer gear to swap to the other diff. For this you will a 3 jaw puller and a press to reinstall. You will also need a press to install the new side bearings.

thats actually a pretty hack job way to install a diff.

I'm surprised at the lack of research some of these "race teams" do before performing tasks.

1. Did not measure diff preload
2. Used crappy sealant for trans
3. Used a socket to pound on the bearings(smart way to blow shards in your eye)
4. Did not block the trans(mainshaft sits lower than bell housing)
5. Should have replaced input shaft bearing, or even checked it while trans was open.

blah blah blah
