Default Downshifting

Ok, so me and my friend are having an argument. I say, its better to put the stick in neutral when you are breaking, my friend is saying its better to downshift.
Now I know for a fact that downshifting putsa alot of wear on your trans and its alot easier to ruin a clutch than it is to ruin your brakes. So please, tell me your opinions

I wish you all could spell. I mean seriously, how hard was elementary english?
Anyhow, heel/toe if I need to brake or just normal downshifting before I begin to brake. It's not hard on the clutch at all and it's BETTER for gas mileage and the brakes. When an engine is put into a negative load state; i.e. decel. with the throttle fully clossed, it will compltetly cut off the fuel injectors, unlike when you put it in neutral, at which time the injectors are still firing.

spot on sir. best piece of info on this thread. Engine braking is not hard on the engine at all.

Proper oil saves synchros. They're there to do something.

Proper rev-match downshifting will but no wear on your synchros, less brake effort, more control of vehicle, and more mileage.'

It's actually illegal to cruise in neutral
