Differential Tolerances
Hello. I am in the midst of installing an ITR LSD and GSR FD into my LS transmission. I got everything out and pressed the bearings onto the new diff. The only thing I am having problems with is where I am supposed to be measuring the tolerance of the diff so I can buy the proper sized shim. I know it is supposed to be between the bearing and the case but how far back. Towards the inside of the bearing there is a lot of space between the bearing and the case (or axle seal really). But, when measuring a little deeper, there is not space what-so-ever between the bearing and the casing.
I have been following along with the "Tranny Overhaul & JDM ITR Final Drive/LSD Install" which has been a huge help but a lot of the pictures are missing. When he measures the tolerance he just says to "measure the tolerance here" but there is no picture so I can't see where "here" is. Also, a lot of people have said there is a detailed section of the Helm's Manual where they go step by step for shimming the diff to the proper tolerance but I can't seem to find it anywhere. All I can find is how to shim the mainshaft. Thanks ahead of time!
