Default to all that has installed an LSD

Who has actually measured the clearances and change the shims to whatever needs to be. I know of a lot of people that dont do this, and everybody I've talked to never has had a problem with it, and then i hear people saying that the tranny mite not last that long.
who has actually seen a tranny go bad because the person that has installed the diff didnt shim it correctly??

I haven't, but if you are going to do something. Especially in your drivetrain. Take the time to do it right the first time.

I dropped an itr lsd into my gsr tranny. I replaced the roller bearings with some itr ball bearings and them shimmed it to spec. If you have a gsr tranny, and change to lsd, either replace the roller bearings or shim it. The cone bearings require a specific preload or they will fail.

hey.. i dont have the manual for a ITR but only one for a GSR. Can you please go through the steps of installing the ITR ball bearings for me.

You first have to punch out the preload thingies so that you can install a ball bearing right? Once you put the diff in, you would measure the clearance of the bearings to the top part of the tranny case right?? and then if its not right, I would add shim to the bottom part of the tranny case? do any shims go on the top part of the case at all?

and are all the shims the same size and if so, what size are they? So all i have to do is stack up the shims until I get the desired clearance which is roughly 0-0.1mm right?
