Default DC2 shaft differences?

hi,
i understand that 98+ spec DC2 drive shafts are different to other b series ones, but is it just the outer cv?
does any other honda civic have the larger ones or is it purely just the itr? also can the outer cv's be replaced with smaller civic ones?

many thanks Adam

The outer cup is different yes, it has the 36mm nut instead of the 32mm. You can source it from a JDM ITR or USDM equivalent which is 98-01 CRV if I recall correctly.
If you are doing an ITR swap, you can use any B series USDM axle set to match your 32mm nut/ hub.

thanks for the info. is it just the outer joint that is different, are the shaft splines the same? so could a small cv joint (civic) fit onto a 98 spec shaft?

I believe the tri-pod inside the outer cup is bigger and wont allow a USDM cup.
