Default Axle clacking?

Hey H-T, i just started to have this problem. My car is a 99 LX 4 door with an auto trany(i know, don't rub it in haha) so recently, When I first start my car and put it in drive or reverse, and gas, it would sound like the gears are vibrating or grinding. Now today, after i check my axle, it starting to clack like the boot was ripped and dried up. But yesterday, it was fine on both sides. Now its making noises like my axle is dry to the max, but my wheels are straight. I thought they would only clack when i turned. and when I gas, it would go away, but when I coast, it would sound. Can anyone help me figure what could be wrong? If I'm not clear just post and I'll try to clear it up,.
