ys1 gs-r tranny help: popping out of 3rd.
hi all, so i've been having this problem since july, but now it is getting progressively worse. i desperately am in need of enlightenment i'll try to be as specific as possible. here are presenting symptoms:
1. 3rd will pop out under acceleration in a LEFT turn. regardless how fast/slow i go. i can go through a right-hand curve and it will remain in 3rd.
**when 3rd gear is "in" it stays in, UNLESS i make a left.**
other stuff:
this doesn't happen all the time, maybe for 1 out of every 3 shifts into third. it's still enough to make the driving experience difficult to enjoy.
1. second to third: upon the immediate release of the clutch pedal, the lever slides out of position and rests in between third and neutral (you can feel chattering when you rest your hand on the **** after this happens). from this position i can re-attempt clutching in and putting it back into third; it may engage successfully or...
-it will pop back out. sometimes as many as seven times in a row. by that point i am fed up, having lost much momentum that i just slap it in fourth and bog along.
-it pops out. sometimes what i do is i put it back in third, and let off the clutch SLOWLY. third will either engage sucessfully, or it will be in "neutral"; by this, i mean that the lever is still (somewhat) in third's position but you felt absolutely nothing "grab" after lifting the pedal up, as if nothing was there. the rpms are at idle speed, and that chattering can be felt still through the ****.
2. fourth to third: upon immediate release of the clutch pedal...
-third gear will pop out and land in between third and neutral's position. this is regardless if i have rev-matched or not.
**NO GRINDING occurs in any of the conditions i have listed above. it simply will not hold itself in third.**
i have heard many different responses from mechanics/mechanically inclined individuals. everything from tranny mounts, motor mounts, shifter bushings, shift fork, shift linkage, synchro's, etc etc. i don't want to end up replacing/rebuilding the tranny and having the problem persist...help meeeeee ...merry christmas all!

Re: ys1 gs-r tranny help: popping out of 3rd. (chalupa)
That sounds like ur shift forks inside ur tranny, u might have them bent. No way of knowing, u gotta take the tranny apart and inspect. Have u checked ur tranny mounts?

That still dosent isolate the fact that u might have bent forks.
