Default y8 head/ z6 block

When putting a y8 head on a z6 block, what differences are there if any in fittment?
I heard that cam timing change of some sort is needed.

thnx a million

no change in timing as long as you use the Y8 cam with the Y8 cam gear or vise versa with the Z6 and just be sure to use Y8 head studs.

Yup, just the headbolts are different. The Y8 headbolts are shorter than the Z6...

I actually mixed and matched the headbolts. I used all Z6 bolts, except for the 2 rear corner bolts, for those I used Y8 bolts (because the Z6 bolts were too long). I like the Y8 head, personally I believe it is a better head for the street than the Z6 due to the intake porting and the large quench pads.

I can't wait for my high compression Z6 block to be finished! Wait... I have to start it first...

i think there is 1.5 degrees difference in timing if your using all the z6 head internals on the y8

Don't worry about that. The Z6 and Y8 camshafts have different cam timing - so you should use the associated cam gear (ie, y8 cam use y8 cam gear). This also means that you should NOT interchange cam gears between A6/Z6 & Y8 heads.

You don't have to worry about any of this if you're just installing the complete Y8 head.

I have ARP head studs in my z6 now, will I have to ditch them?

no not really, that's what im using on my Z6/Y8 combo because I did it before ARP had studs for the Y8 ...You'll have to get 3 extra washers from ARP(if those are the studs your using) and install 2 extra on the left rear corner and 1 extra on the right rear corner...I'll make a example using an O for the studs that need the extra washers and an X for the regular studs

_________________________(intake manifold side)
2 extra washers here,3 in total--->O X X X O<--1 extra here,2 in total
____________________________ X X X X X

pulled them out.... and they do have washers (been awhile since I put them in).
I shouldn't have to get ARP washers as long as they aren't aluminum or something right?

get ARP washers cause they're a special hardened steel, you can get them in individual pieces from summit racing(thats where I got mine)..It helps if you have the ARP part # for the washers,I wish I had them for you but I forgot them since its been so long.If the Summit Tech does not know how to look them up.Then you'll have to call ARP and get the part # from them and then call Summit back.

Bringing this back from the dead.....will all of the other y8 parts fit in the z6 block? IE: Can I mate the y8 oilpan, rods, crank, etc. onto the z6 block? I plan to pick up a spare block and have it honed for new pistons. TIA
