Default Y1-transmissions

Does anyone know what a Y1 transmission is? Which cars and motors are they compatible with and are there any advantages or disadvantages to using them? ?

Y1 came 88-91crx's with b16. Has same final drive as ls but much shorter gears. I always wanted to run one of these with b20 non-vtec. gearing is a little wider than other b16 tranny's. I would think this is perfect for non vtec motor.
