i just got a jdm y1 and installed it in my crx, it has been sitting for 3 years and never used in the usa, it grinds into 3rd at any speed or rpm, sometimes it doenst also there is a winding out noise in 1st and 2nd, i use honda mtf in it, do u thing i should switch to gm syncro, or run the tranny for some time (i only got mabye 150 miles on it) and then change or u think its trashed?

Yep, you've got a bad synchro. DO NOT rebuild it, it's not worth it. Aside from the fact that you can't get any of the gear sets in U.S, the 1989-91 transmissions share no common parts with the 1992-01 transmissions. The Y1 LSD trannies are rather rare, though.

You're tranny is on its last legs. Better find a short YS1...

 

u can get the syncro kits dave (jdm dohc vtec i think) but i wonder if any one else has had this happen and it was just needed some time to break in

Try changing the tranny fluid. I changed mine and the 2-3 grind in my LS YS1 became far less severe. Honda MTL is good but I've heard that $9 a bottle GM Synchromesh Friction Modified can help out even more severe grinds.
