Default Worn out crank pulley?

I picked up a B18C with a "few" miles on it and the rubber around the crank pulley is cracked...is it time for a new crank pulley or will I be alright?

Thanks
Ben

I've never seen it myself but I think it's vibratory stress. Is it a stock pulley? I would change it for peace of mind considering it's a harmonic balancer for the entire engine and I wouldn't want to put any undue stress on it.

Just don't replace it with a billet pulley.

Actually I was thinking of replacing it with a lightened pulley from sohfast considering I don't have A/C or power steering in my CRX. Anyone have any experience with these? I'm going to have the engine balanced as well...

Honda's are internally balanced. Seldom do they need to be re-balanced. I really don't like the idea of a lightened crank pulley, it just might throw the crank out of whack and start "Crank Walking". As far as other pulley's lighten to your heart's content (Although, you really don't have many options). I've had nightmarish things happen with Unorthodox pulley's.. They aren't my favorite mod.. And if you're gonna have a bling bling stereo, might as well not do it... The battery will never charge..

I adding new pistons and rods, a new flywheel, among other things so balancing is going to be a must. How will a lightened crank pulley introduce crankwalk assuming all the balancing mechanisms (rubber) are still intact?

Thanks

It may not.. But it's a big if.. Balancing is always a good thing, I didn't know you were having all that other stuff done internally. Now I feel like an idiot. It's all about weight... We aren't talking pounds, we're talking grams. One or two grams can cause enough stess to kill the internals real quick. Since you're having it balanced anyway, I think it would be self defeating in the long run.

Thanks, a lightened flywheel seems like the safer alternative.
