It's the same thing, just different name.

they are not the same thing. the motor turns the gear or cables on the regulator. the regulator is bolted to the inner door and the window is bolted to the regulator.

ok so, my windows roll down but wont roll up. when i press the down, i hear the motor trying to make the window go down, but since this is the rear sedan door, it won't go down anymore. but when i press the up, i don't hear any sound. so i would need a new motor right? and how come when i choose a part on the junkyard website for window motor, they never have a rear? i only see front. http://www.car-part.com searched for 1994 honda civic, rear door window motor, window motor, etc.
only thing for rear that i get is the regulator.

also, when i do a search for a 1994 civic motor and i choose the front (beside there is not option for rear), i get results from like crvs and preludes. would those fit a civic too?

Is this happening for all your windows? My friend was having the same problem on his Nissan. The regulator is actually integrated with the motor on that car (cable drive system), I don't know about yours...

my two front windows work fine. my rear driver side doesn't go down at all so i don't know if it goes up, and my rear passenger side goes down, but not up.

from what i see, the regulator has a metal cable attached to it, and i see/feel wires running from the regulator to the motor. don't know if i can detach that wire.

dammit, i bought a window motor and regulator and the same thing happens. i hear the motor running when i press the down switch, but nothing when i press the up switch. is there something else wrong? maybe a power window switch for the rear door? where can i get one of those?
