Default will this starter work?

here's my prob. the starter on my car went out. it's a GS-R motor with a j1/s1 tranny. the reason i mention the tranny is 'cause i'm assuming the starter is the same one that came on the b16 motor the tranny was on, i have no idea. now. if the starter is off of a b16, could that be why it died? 'cause i called and a GS-R starter is $155, the B16 starter is only $80. this leads me to believe there may be a difference? both have lifetime warranties.. so i'm gonna by the $80 if it fits until i can afford to get the correct one. IF there is a difference. does anyone know?

okay. starter didn't work. i have a Mitsuba sm-402-01 starter. no auto parts stores have a cross reference for this number. it's an 89-91 JDM Y1/S1 tranny. i tried a b-series starter and the bolt pattern is too close by about 1/4".
does anyone have an idea of what starter i need? i'm stuck. not even Google could help.
