why does my 1/4 mile time suck????
I have a 91 crx si with a b16a. I have a skunk 2 intake manifold, intake, header, exhaust and vafc 2 controller and some other minor things like new plugs and wires. i dont have an lsd tranny so i kind of dont know what i should launch at. I run a 15.3 all day put the vtec controller in and skunk 2 better intake ngk plugs and wires and still run the same time all day. My shifts are so good i think its my start does anyone one know if i should start off regular or what should i launch at?
Was your piggyback and the VTEC point tuned on a dyno or by the seat of your pants?
Launch as hard as you can w/out slipping the tires. A slight bit of slip at the launch is okay if the tires get traction quickly. What is your reaction time? Practice with one of those tree simulators.

Reaction time doesn't make a difference, and the best 60' time is not necessarily going to get you to the end of the strip the quickest. Anyway, here's a link to a thread that should answer all your questions.

yeah yeah, what he said. you can sit at the starting line for 2 days, and the clock won't start until your tires break the photo beam

Well i lauched at 4000 to 4500 and i spin all through first gear because i have no lsd so thats not an option. I try 3000 to 3500 and i somewhat spin and thats when i ran the 15.3 so i deflate my tires some and do worse so i know not to do that. No my vtec controller wasnt tuned on a dyno my friend did it and hes pretty smart they say but i think that is what i am going to do next is get it tuned. I just know for a fact that my car should be better because its so fast down the track that it must be im messing up on the start i even beat my friends h22 civic. Im just asking because the track is on friday and i need something better than that.
Besides posting your times, what is your MPH? If you can post as much info as possible, people can give more accurate responses.
Also, since it appears you have a more or less internally stock B16, you will probably be better off with your stock intake manifold. The shorter runners in the skunk2 one are designed for a higher rpm power peak, since you haven't changed your cams, you probably are just losing power throughout the curve, for maybe a tiny bit up top with that manifold. Just a thought..
What kind of tires are you using, too(type + size?).

Well thats true about the skunk 2. My MPH is always 91 or 90 never anything else i dont really know the rest like my reaction time because i was so pissed that i threw my slips out. The kind of tires i have are Runway Enduro 606 185/60. I dont know what else to to put if there is anything else then let me know and ill let you know so i can figure the problem out.

Well, trap speeds of 90 or 91 mph... that sounds a little underpowered for a B16..not dramatically so, but I seem to see more 94-96 mph... even with a bad launch, usually the mph is a little higher. Many times, with a shorter time, you'll also have a lower trap speed.
Have you done a tune up lately? Set the valve lash? How do the spark plugs look? Just little things that might be adding up to rob a few ponies from ya.
I forgot to ask... where are you located/running at? Altitude might be factor, too. Any idea what other similar setups are running in your area? Seems some tracks getting into the 14s in general with a mostly stock B16 is tough, other places, people are down in the 14.5 range.
hmm, you could always have one of those automatic-trans B16s.. what rpm do you shift at?

My spark plugs are new ngk ones and i just put them in. I havent had a tune up but i think i should get one. I guess it is the altitude because i am located in tucson and they say the if you go to phoenix the altitude is different. It takes like half a second off. So maybe i should see what i do down there.

well since i dont have lsd i think im just going to go out and by slicks and launch hard from there and see what happens. Thanks for all the info guys if you have more to say go right ahead but thanks.
yup practice launching, practice shifting faster and also do yourself a favor and get a fuel pressure regulator or something... all air and no fuel mods just like sheemo3 said!
