Default Why cut bumpstops

I have the H&R Race springs and it says if I cut the jounce bumpstops by 1" the car will be .5" lower...
HOW??? the car doesn't rest on the bumpstops... or does it. I thought they only control the shock stroke length NOT vehicle height
Has anyone done this and had their car sit lower?? I want my ride to be lower
If you cut it does it matter if you cut from the top or the bottom?

instructions that came with the springs:
"have been designed with custom fine tuning features which allow you the option of an additional .5" lowering. The normal lowering for H&R Civic Race springs is approximately 2.25" front and 2.0" rear. To obtain this extra .5" lwering the stock jounce bumper may be trimmed 1.0" or the custom H&R jounce bumper may be used. This will provide an approximate lowering of 2.75" front and 2.5" rear."

Default Re: Why cut bumpstops (mdt017)

cutting the bumpstops will only let your suspension travel down lower. It means that when you hit a bump with lowering springs and you dont have the bumpstops cut that you will probably get a really harsh ride from hitting the bumpstops. If you cut them then the suspension will be able to travel a little farther and you wont hit the bumpstops and the ride will be better.
And NO it will not make your car lower, it just lets your suspension travel a little farther.
