who make the best tools (Overall)
Best I have used?
SnapOn.
Best that I can afford?
Craftsman.
The whole take it back if ANYTHING happens is really cool.
My 215 pc. set of Craftsman tools with case cost as much as
a 3/8ths drive ratchet made by SnapOn.
SICK!!!!

I would say Craftsman. They're affordable, great quality, they get the job done and their is good. Snap-On is a very nice tool. But they're a bit spendy. Not many of us can afford expensive tools and car parts. At least I can't.

Make sure you get a craftsman club card from the sales person at Sears. The don't advertise this program.

This will save you 10 - 15% during promo times. Not bad if you are starting a set of tools.

i dunno why,but i just like matco tools--i also own a fare share of snap-on stuff.they're both pretty similar though, but are way better than a craftsman.my craftsman stuff feels like a toy after using a snap-on/matco tool.
What tools do you guys tend to use the most? I used to have an incredibly diverse tool set that my father owned, but my mom gave away about 9/10ths of that stuff, so pretty much all I have easy access to now are some random pieces to a ratchet set, a drill, and some other basic tools. (hammers, screwdrivers, etc.) Any others that tend to be used often?
for everyday mechanic like us, Craftsman is good cause you can get it at any Sears. they also have life time no question asked gaurantee but if youre a serious mechanic Snap On may be a bit better. they both have the same gaurantee/warrenty but Snaps on you need to find those dam trucks to get a replacement.
MASTERCRAFT RULEZ
but hey..canadian only
it's mostly like crafstman..but with a lot more diff tools and better reliability..
though i wouln't use that in professional crew teams for hard work tools..
but they are less expensive than most other tools

Agree. I've had my Mastercraft ratchet/socket set for 15 years now and the 3/8 ratchet is just starting to die on me. And it has seen it's share of abuse (read: with hammer, crowbar etc...) over the years. And I only paid like $60CDN for a 200 piece english/metric set back then. So I'll just pick up a new rachet for like $20 and i'm good to go again.
Bang for the buck, Canadian Tire tools rule!

heh, speaking of tools, i just broke my craftsman 1/2" drive rachet trying to break my passenger side axle bolt loose.
ah well, guess its just a trip to the local sears.

i used to use crafstman tools and i thought they were the best... just recently i have been getting into the snap-on stuff and it just spoiled me... ill use a craftsman ratchet now and its not the same... i feel like im cheating myself out of something better...
just today i was changing me and my friend were changing his exhaust... and i was using a snap-on ratchet with a craftmans socket... but something didnt feel right... then i looked at it... so i got the snap-on one...
i think snapon is like turbo... once u go there... u dont go back!!!
as for any reliability issues... ussually i can run into a snapon truck... if i dont though... i know one is by the shop i go to every monday... so its no problem

Crasftsman kicks ***! I've never used snapon, but considering I can take my craftsmans back and get new ones with no questions asked, I don't really care about trying snapon.
FWIW, I've never even heard of snapon. So, what was that about being screwed when one breaks?

SNAP-ON of course, you get your money worth, Craftsmen tool is O.K, but when It comes down to replacing a tool, Craft. takes forever, SNAP-ON in the other hand either A: fix it B; replaced it .........guranteed
Also I find that Craftsmen tools wear out fast, again you get what you pay for

for sockets and stuff, craftsmen does the job. But for ratchets, definately matco or snapon. I actually like the matco ratchet the best.
Snap-on is good because they have every specialty tool. For torque wrenches, i will never use a craftsmen. Has to be a snap-on one. Like everyone else said, you get what you pay for.
I just wish a snap-on tool box didnt cost $4000. I mean its nice and all, but way over priced. Im happy with my $300 craftmen tool box. Of course they are different sizes, so you really cant compare them in that sense.

I have never had a problem with the quality of Craftsman or Snap-On, but I admit that my pro series snap on screwdrivers (red handle) are much more ergodynamic than my craftsman set. I have been happy with the durability of the craftsman ratches, as I have put a 4' breaker bar on both my 3/8" and 1/4" ratchets when removing main bolts & rod bolts on my B18a1.
