good luck doing all that in a weekend... rememebr you need time for the paint to dry before between coats and such. you basically have to take out EVERYTHING to do a good job of it, it takes a lot of time. take off the hood, pull engine + all pump and accessory brackets + radiator + fan... oh and dont forget prep time, lots of sanding...

You'd be surprised... not much sanding is needed. Stock engine bay paint is very thin, I sprayed some Castrol Engine Degreaser and that along with a ruff scrubbing pad took up a lot of the paint. By the time I was done most the engine bay was grey.
Yeah, I seriously doubt being able to disassemble, prep, spray, let dry (especially in this cold season) and reassemble in a weekend. I know I took my time putting everything back to normal but it still took a lot of time. Keep in mind that I removed everything though- engine harnesses, grommets, brake and clutch lines, i mean everything.
Good luck

I doubt you will be able to finish it in a weekend. You can sure try though. I give it 4 days. Thats if you work on it constantly. Maybe look into getting it powder coated. Thats what I would do. -HIT

I have painted 3 or 4 bays in the last few months... As far as time... if the motor is out it shouldn't take you more than 2 days. You want to use a scotch bright pad (you can get at any automotive paint store... also get a paint prep cleaner/degreaser ( from the paint shop, not anywhere else) You can also clean the bay with Acetone. Basically make sure the surface is clean. If you are going to paint it CW then make sure you get a 2 stage paint. ie. base coat clear coat. As far as painting, you can paint in just about any weather, you just have to get the correct reducer (just ask the guy at the paint shop) As car as the base coat use PPG paint, all you should need is a pint of paint and a pint of reducer= 2 pints of sprayable paint. As far as the clear, you will need it to lock the surface down, if you don't use a clear, the paint WILL chip. You can get a gloss or flat clear depending on how you want it to look. You also need to understand that unless you are a bad *** painter you will need to sand whatever runs or orange peel you may have, also the clear will have to be buffed to match the rest of the car.

Also I'm not sure how you would powdercoat your bay ?? I mean you would have to sand blast the bay to metal, then have it shot and then baked in an oven... meaning you would have to strip anything that could melt out of the car... plus I don't think you can get CW in a Powder??

If you have any other questions email me

Peace

Yeah, you can't really powdercoat an engine bay man . Sorry. Unless you have one big as oven and don't mind baking off the rest of your paint.
