Engine Bay Paint Questions?
I am trying to find how the engine bay is painted? It seems like the paint is not high gloss like the outer part of the car. Is it just the basecoat with no clear? I need to paint a radiator support and would like to match it up to the rest of the egine compartment.
Thanks,
John

if it's oem then the paint is the same as the car, just dirty and stuff from never being waxed or anything. if someone repainted the car or it was wrecked then it's hard to tell what someone did to it..
my guess it that it's base/clear but just dull from not being treated like the outside.

here's my thought on it. after they primer the entire car the engine bay area doesn't get the full treatment, like multiple thin layers of clear coat. at most they will recieve a semi-gloss approach. enough to give it a shiny look but not to the point where it isn't cost effective to paint it. You can duplicate it at home in the garage with primer and semi-gloss paint. That's how most hot rodders & muscle car guys do it(including myself) . especially when they know they don't plan to take the car to any shows.
