Default where do I install IAT sensor?

The intake manifold on my b17 has a diamond shaped rise on the #1 cyl runner. This would seem the obvious place to drill and tap for an intake temp sensor, which I took off a ZC manifold I had around. I'm wondering if it'd make any difference if I fit it further upstream (between the filter and TB) , mainly to avoid removing the manifold and actually drilling three holes and all that. Does the 99 Civic Si not use this sensor? I was told that is what kind of manifold is actually on my engine (missing a dashpot diaphragm...what does that do anyways?).

The '99 Civic Si has this sensor, but it is plumbed into the intake pipe between the filter and the throttle body and is a different style to fit in that location.
