Default when you cant do a compression test, do this

I did a leakdown test and one cylinder was leaking about 25% more than the others. So once the head was off, I was wondering If it was true that the rings could be tested with the head off.

Test 1: CONFIRMED
I put all the pistons to the same height and filled them up with oil. After 2 weeks the suspect cylinder had almost no oil in it.

Test 2: CONFIRMED
I plugged up all the holes in the block with rags and refilled the cylinders with oil. Then I applied compressed air to the dipstick tube. Small bubbles leaked from ALL of the cylinders, but the suspect cylinder was bubbling like crazy.

Good info, I never would have thought of that...but I also have never been in that situation, probably wouldn't be patient enough to wait 2 weeks lol
