If you have a VAFC and you change your vtec points lo-hi and hi-lo should your intake manifolds secondary butterfly open at stock vtec point still or your new vtec hi cam engagement point?

ie. change lo>hi to 4800rpm and hi<lo at 4600. Should I hear the audible sound of the manifold at 5800 still or 4800?

Your VAFC has no control over your IABs... They are totally separate from each other... If you hear an audible pop that is only your VTEC... The IABs make very little noise... I actually don't like them and even tho most people disagree with me I pull out the whole IAB plate on just about every motor I build with a GSR manifold... That's just me tho... If your VTEC is at 4800 on the VAFC that's when the VTEC will x-over and the IABs will still remain at the stock programed ~5700rpm... Hope this helps... Latez

Thanks for the help, that answers my worries. I have a VAFC in my car and am just starting to worry about the installation. My car throws CEL's in 4th and 5th gear and I started wondering about the IAb's theory too. At least thats one less worry- thanks again. Gresham huh- I'm in Beaverton/Portland area!

 

No prob... what CEL are you gettin in 4th and 5th?? Like a 22 or something for VTEC pressure?? Just curious... and yup I'm from Gresham, most of the time I'm down in Corvallis at OSU but I come home on most weekends... You're out in Beverton huh, do you know the Drag Tec or Fastrak guys... I'm friend's with Ground Zero guys so normally we don't get along too well with them... hahaha oh well tho... Good Luck!!!!

 

Ya I know the Dragtec guys.... my good friend has Andy do all his work from there. I used to be in like Flint with Alta Sports, kinda helped part time, and worked for CPS next door full time. I'd like to get in with the ground zero guys if possible- you know establish at least a good rapport with them- there aren't alot of (good) options for shops around here! What do you drive? You may have seen my black gsr/JDM coversion with the Japanese plate runnin around downtown... Thanks again for your help-
