I have heard that even though you may have light rims the larger diameter of the rims will slow down your car even if its the same weight of a smaller diameter rim. But after i bought some forged 17" Volk TE37's it actually felt faster then when i had my 15" GSR rims which were about 1 or 2 pounds heavier. So is it true that if you have a lighter rim then a smaller diameter rim the larger diameter rim will effect power more?

 

the overall diameter of the wheel (wheel + tires) will be around the same because with larger rims you tend to buy smaller profile tires. Then you got to add in the fact with lower profiled tires it may actually weigh less than the larger profile, smaller diameter tires. Weigh both the tires and rims and you will see that they are probally almost the same as the gsr ones. I noticed my 13 inch steelies + tires weigh close to the same as my rota 15's with tires...

Both a larger rim and a heavier rim will slow acceleration.

A combination of how much weight there is how far from the center of the rim will affect acceleration. This is moment of inertia. Ideally, you want a light rim with most of its weight concentrated around the center.
