Wheel fitting and tire size question...plus more...
I really don't know much about tires/rims so I have to ask...
I've had the stock 14 inch x 5inch (or 5.5inch can't remember) steelies for a 1995 Civic ex. A week ago I had an incident that ended in my left rear tire being torn to shreds and the left side rims being bent to the point of being unusable. I've tried many places to find matching replacements but only came down to buying 2 new steelies from Americas Tire Co. for around $115. I thought why stop there and looked for some aftermarket rims.
The whole point of this is, I found some 14inch x 6inch rims and want to use my old tires, they're all less than 4 months old except for the one that blew and I have to replace anyway. The tire size for the steelies was 175/65R14 and the recommendation for the 14inch aftermarkets is also 175/65R14. What I'm getting at is, it is okay to re-use those tires even though the aftermarket rims are 0.5-1inch wider than the steelies right?
Also, is there any advantage/disadvantage of 14 inch rims vs lets say, 16 inch rims? The bigger the rim the more it usually weighs right?
Probably longer than it needs to be, sorry, I just like to clarify things.

for a 175/65-14 a 6 inch rim would be okay. most 175/65/14 are approved for 5-6" wheels.
as far as advantage for 15 and 16" over 14" tires there are better handling and performance options in those sizes.

I agree. With 14" tires, you're going to be VERY limited in terms of options. They tend to be less expensive, but since you're thinking about getting new wheels anyhow, I would go 15" or 16". 15" wheels and tires won't be that much more expensive anyhow.

I agree with everything posted so far.
If you want to go with 15" wheels, there are a lot of used Integra 15" stock wheels (from the GS-R and Special Edition versions) that should bolt right onto your Civic with no problems. Your car would be best with 195/50-15 tires, but if you pick up some used Integra wheels with 195/55-15 or 205/50-15 tires, you could go ahead and use them up, then buy 195/50-15 when they're done.
