wheel bearing problem
i know for a fact that my wheel bearing went bad and i have been ignoring it for a while and now im sick of the sound and stuff so i need to change it. i have a 96 integ se im not sure if i need to take out the whole knuckle and have it pressed out or i can change it my self. and would i need a new hub since i been driving on a bad bearing for the longest time ? i drove like 13000 miles so far on a bad bearing i should have fixed it right away that was my mistake any input would help thanx
I think the hub is okay. You will have to take out the knuckle, although I hear there is a tool which some shops have which press the bearing out without having to take the knuckle out. You'll need to take the knuckle off, press the hub out, take out the front and back C-clips holding the bearing in, then press the bearing out. Reverse the order for installation.
Here's the only problem. I'm trying to find a shop that will press the bearing and hub out for me and press the new bearing in. All the shops I'm calling are saying they can't do that due to liability reasons, so I need to drive the whole car in and let them do all the work. That's great, but that also costs like 4 times as much.
Anyways, good luck.
