What is the proper tire size for a 16" rim?
I know that the usual tire size is 205/45/16 but is that because it is the proper diameter as the stock tire (99 Si)? Is there anything wrong with a 205/40/16?

there's nothing wrong with it so to speak, but the sidewall is gonna be really thin. potholes will do some damage--beware.

Yeah, nothing wrong with 205/40R16 but your speedo will be off. It will display a speed that is faster than you are really going. it will not be off by a whole lot, but of course you will also be more likely to damage your rims using that tire size. I personally would go with 205/45R16 because of the above mentioned reasons.

Have had both 205/40/16 and 205/45/16 and I would go for the 45 series tire over the 40's. Not a huge difference/preference but I do like the taller sidewall.
