What to look for with an engine swap?????
Ok I am probally going to buy a theft recovered civic hatch and put in a new motor. I was wondering what I should look out for. I want to drop and H22a or b16a into it. What type of things does it need to have to swap into another car to make it run. Also the ones on ebay say it has a cable tranny and hydrolic tranny which is better? Also do I have to buy new axels and what not to make it work? I am trying to get some information about doing an engine swap before I buy the car and have no clue what to do. Thanks in advance.
yeah you'll have to do a bunch. buy your motor not from ebay. Get it from some place like hmotorsonline.com or something like that. hasport.com has lots of spiffy help on their site. from which axles to use to cable to hydro conversion kits. ohh cable and hydro are no better than eacher per se, it just depends on what is available with what motor
what year hatch?
up to 91, the hatches had a cable tranny, so it might be easier to swap in a b16 w/ the cable, but i believe hasport has the harness to go from cable to hydro and vice versa.
92-on hatches have hydro tranny so a hydro tranny might be easier.
personally, i wouldn't get a swap from ebay, get one form a reputable place where you know you are getting a complete swap to eliminate some headaches of looking for parts. most of these places come w/ axels, shift linkage, etc. which you need to do the swap.
